LYNN  SPECIAL  EDUCATION

PARENT  ADVISORY  COUNCIL

The Lynn Special Education Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is comprised of parents who have children who receive Special Education services within the Lynn Public Schools.  They serve as an advisory to the Special Education Department, meeting with the Administrator of Special Education to discuss programs, parent concerns and current special education laws.  They also assist parents in learning their rights and responsibilities within these laws.

The PAC meets the first Monday of every month during the school year except in January.  If the first Monday of the month is a holiday, the meeting will be held the following week.  When there is no school due to inclement weather, there is no meeting that month.  There are no meetings in July or August.

Meetings are advertised on COMCAST Cable (public access channel), in the Daily Evening Item (Lynn Briefs column), the North section of the Boston Sunday Globe and the North Shore Sunday (calendar columns).  Connect Ed is also being utilized (automated telephone system to students’ homes).

All interested parties are encouraged to attend and benefit from guest speakers in the Special Education field.  There is an executive board and elections are held in June.

To contact any of the executive board members please call Debbie Stone, Parent Liaison for Special Education, at 781-268-3000, Ext. 177 or e mail:

stoned@lynnschools.org.

As a parent, you have the most powerful voice in the education of your child.  The Home & School Partnership

Parent Advisory Council is challenging all families, schools, and community groups to work together to support learning.  Regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to:

  v     Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs;

v     Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits;

v     Attend school regularly;

v     Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school; and

v     Graduate and go on to postsecondary education

 The Home & School Partnership Parent Advisory Council cordially invites all interested parents to attend our monthly meetings. The Meeting location is Lynn Technical Institute Annex Building/School Administration Building at 90 Commercial St. in the second floor Staff Development Room from 6:30PM-8:00PM.
