Dream Rocket Project

1

The 4th and 5th grade Art Club at Harrington Elementary School will be a part of the International Fiber Collaborative Incorporation’s The Dream Rocket Project. The theme for the artwork is Personal Connection to Immigration or Migration. The students collaborated and reflected on how these topics related to them on a personal level, then as a school community. The next step was to create a quilt block out of felt and fabric. These blocks were then assembled to create two quilt-like pieces of artwork. The students named the two pieces of artwork “E.J. Harrington Elementary School’s Immigration Center”. This artwork will first be on display at the Lowell National Historical Park from October 1 to November 30, 2014 and then continue traveling to other exhibition sites across the country. In May of 2015, art work from around the world will be connected side by side to wrap the 356’ Saturn V Moon Rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, along with our students’ work! The Dream Rocket Project was a unique experience that provided the students with new knowledge of the Space Program, a deeper sense of community, and an avenue for personal expression. The following students participated;4th Grade: Fatima Sierra, Semetricus Hagans, Nnenna Nwoke, Jadalize Guzman, Britney Aguilar, Mariano Corona, Irma Rasidovic5th Grade: Aaliyah Mendez, Lydia Splaine, Timothy Powell, George Gomez Mary ParksArt Teacher (E.J.
