“Meet Mrs. Caruso” I feel so fortunate to be a special education teacher at Aborn School.  I have been involved in the field of education for 21 years.

I attended Lynn Public Schools graduating from Lynn Classical High School.  In 1989 I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Salem State College, and in 1992 I earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Lesley College.

It is my belief that my role is to instill self-confidence in students.  Every child has the potential to learn and every child has strengths.  I also believe that it is the role of all teachers to instill a passion for learning in students that will carry them through their lives.  Every child is unique and those differences should be celebrated.

“One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, What kind of house I lived in, Or how much money I had in the bank, But the world may be a better place because I made a difference in a child’s life.”  Author unknown

“Meet Mrs. Hamelers” I am delighted to be part of the Aborn School Community. I have had the pleasure of working with children in various academic settings since 1991. I have a Masters’ degree in Education, I am a licensed Special Education teacher and prior to this I received my Bachelors’ degree in Science, and I worked as a licensed Occupational Therapist.

My teaching philosophy: I believe all children have strengths and are better able to learn using those strengths, along with differentiated instruction and multisensory strategies. As a teacher, my goal is to differentiate instruction using multisensory teaching modalities to allow children to succeed. I believe all children can learn at their pace, and teach to a child’s strengths to help them become motivated while instilling lifelong learning.

Two quotes I find very inspiring are:
“If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn” Ignacio Estrada
“Fair isn’t everyone getting the same thing, fair is each person getting what they need to be successful!”

Keep trying, you can do this!
Mrs. Hamelers
