My name is Katelyn Leonard and this is my first year teaching both Physical Education and Health in the Lynn Public Schools. Both my Phys. Ed. and Health classrooms revolve around providing students with a basic tools to lead a healthy life.
Health class encourages the development of physical, social and emotional health to promote overall wellness. The emphasis in this class is to develop personal health goals as well as a general understanding of the skills needed to live a healthy and happy life. We will discuss topics such as: Decision-Making, Personal Hygiene, Nutrition & Fitness, Self-Esteem, Tobacco, Alcohol and other Drugs and The Body Systems.
My Physical Education classroom will focus on three areas: cooperative learning, personal fitness and development of new skills. Since each student comes to class with varying fitness abilities, the emphasis is on personal growth with individual skills and, more importantly, collaboration with fellow classmates to achieve a common goal. My goal for students is to not only find an aspect of physical fitness that they enjoy and can explore further when they leave the classroom, but also to learn how to work with and encourage their peers.
In both classrooms, students are encouraged to keep an open mind, think creatively and try new adventures.
