My career as a Bulldog started in 1972 when I was a mascot for the LEHS hockey team. My shirt, as you can see in the photo to the left, still hangs in my classroom. A student athlete; academically, I finished in the top 10% of the LEHS class of 1988.
I played varsity soccer and ice hockey throughout my high school career. My senior year, our soccer team advanced to the quarter finals in the state tournament and our hockey team won the last NEC title in the school’s history. I had the honor or playing in the NEC hockey all-star game vs. the Cape Ann League in 1988 and after high school, was able to return to LEHS to join the coaching staffs for both the hockey and soccer teams.
Between hockey and soccer, I coached at LEHS for about 12 years. I was a volunteer assistant coach on the hockey team under head coach Al Melanson and was the JV/assistant coach of the soccer team under head coach Ken Noyes.
In college, I earned my bachelor’s degree in mathematics from U-Mass Lowell and went on to earn my master’s degree in professional studies in secondary education from Salem State College (now Salem State University). In the 1994-95 school year, I started teaching at LEHS and earned my Massachusetts educator’s license and I have been teaching in the math department ever since.
I have taught just about every course offered in the LEHS math department, some of which I developed on my own. After 6 years of coaching the math team, we finally won our playoff meet in my last season (2018). I currently teach calculus at the AP and honors level as well as a developmental course for sophomores.
