Joe Skahan teaches a variety of the Sciences at Fecteau Leary Alternative including: Biology, Marine Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and 7th grade Science. He has been teaching at Fecteau Leary since the Fall of 2012, and previous to that taught Special Education Science at Lynn English High School for 8 years. He also has been a Science Teacher at the Lynn English Evening Alternative Program for the last 5 years. His main focus is on making the Science curriculum accessible to all students by utilizing new technologies, differentiation of instruction, modification and a hands-on learning approach.

Skahan attended the Lynn Public Schools prior to attending Westfield State University, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Visual Art in 2004. He is currently studying to receive a Masters in Education in the fields of both ESL and Special Education, which will be completed in 2016. In 2007 he was awarded the Most Valuable Teacher award from the Boston Red Sox, in 2010 he received the Ocean Stewardship Award from the New England Aquarium as well as a commendation from the state house. In 2013 and 2014 Skahan was a participant in the School of Rock in both Victoria, BC, and Lewes, DE, which brought teachers from all over North America together to learn about the Secrets beneath the Sea floor aboard the JOIDES Resolution. He is also active in the community and has served as a student mentor as part of RAW Artworks Project LAUNCH for the last five years.
