The Electronics Program

Technology continues to revolutionize the society in which we live. The impact of electronic technology and the necessity of people to increase their ability to accomplish life’s tasks necessitate the need for electronic technicians. Here in Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, the Electronics Technology Program is based on an understanding of engineering principles. The course work engages young men and women in project-based activities that include electronic theory of operation, design, construction, test, and troubleshooting of electronic devices. The development of problem solving and critical thinking skills are integral part of the curriculum. Students work in a contemporary technical area complete with analog and digital trainers, microprocessor trainers, digital multi-meters and oscilloscopes.

Ninth grade exploratory students are introduced to the many career opportunities in the electronics field. Shop safety practices are stressed. Students will be introduced to activities that will stimulate their minds and increase their knowledge through hands-on experiences. They are made aware of basic electronic concepts, simple hand tools, test meters, and basic soldering techniquess.

Students who select electronics as their major course of study will be provided with instruction and experiences that will enable them to apply and demonstrate the acquisition of skills in the following areas:

♦ Apply principles of industry quality standard qualifications
♦ Listing the attributes of design in a variety of technical fields
♦ Problem solving, diagnostics, troubleshooting
♦ Maintaining equipment & machinery
♦ Applying manufacturing process
♦ Assembling electronic circuits
♦ Use of measurement devices, electronic hand tools & equipment, DC instrument, & AC instruments
♦ Applying electronic laws
♦ Applying, calculating & verifying semiconductor circuits
♦ Applying, calculating & verifying digital devices
♦ OSHA 10-hour Certification
♦ First Aid Certification
♦ CPR Certification

Career opportunities upon completion of this technical program include, but are not limited to:
