I have been teaching 6th grade math since I started my career 7 years ago at Thurgood Marshall Middle School. Before I went into teaching, I was a software consultant for three years. I graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. I earned a Master of Education degree from Lesley University. I love being a teacher and enjoy watching my students grow academically and socially each year.

My goal is to prepare my students to use math effectively in the world. Together we will work hard at understanding many mathematical concepts. We spend class time exploring math in a variety of ways, participating in class discussions, problem solving individually and in groups, and reflecting on our understanding.  During my free time, I love spending time with my family and enjoying the outdoors.

Mrs. Aylward grew up right here in Lynn. She attended Connery Elementary, Breed Middle School, and Lynn English High School. Go Bulldogs!

Mrs. Aylward went to Norwich University, the military college of Vermont. There she studied English. After she graduated, she joined the Army, where she worked with soldiers who suffered from PTSD and other mental disorders.

After getting married and having a baby, Mrs. Aylward left the Army to become a teacher. She has a Master’s in Education from Salem State University. Mrs. Aylward has taught Kindergarten, 1st, 5th, 10th, and now 6th grade!

Mrs. Aylward lives in Groveland with her husband, two sons, a dog, and a cat. She loves to read, and talk about books!

Fun Fact: Mrs. Aylward once rode a donkey around a pyramid in Egypt.

I am entering my 8th year as a teacher and 4th year at Thurgood Marshall. Prior to teaching at TMMS, I taught at Melrose High School, St. Paul’s Choir School in Cambridge and at Cobbet Elementary School.

Before I became a teacher I attended St. John’s Prep in Danvers for high school, the Catholic University in Washington, DC where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and recently graduated from Concordia University where I received a Masters of Education in History Education. I love teaching about the Greco-Roman period of ancient history and also enjoy reading about early American History. This winter I will be assisting as an indoor track coach at Lynn English High School.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy running (I have run 2 full marathons and will be completing my 4th half marathon this November), reading Historical Fiction novels, and listening to podcasts on a variety of topics. I am very excited to begin this school year at TMMS and working with your students.

Hello, my name is Mr. Small.  I am in my first year here at Thurgood Marshall Middle School.  I am excited to be here, as I have heard so many great things about the students and the faculty.  I grew up in Lynn and even graduated from Lynn English High School, so I am happy to be able to teach this next generation of students.

After graduating from Lynn English, I attended UMass Amherst where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology.  Before coming to Thurgood Marshall Middle, I was at Breed Middle School teaching science, math, and even wood shop. I am also a teacher during the summer, as I travel to different schools around Boston teaching young students science experiments.
