Welcome to the Food Services Department

Food is a big part of everyone’s well-being, and students need a place to eat where they can connect with others, recharge, and enjoy a sense of happiness in their school. That’s why we serve food kids love to eat and create programs that encourage fun and discovery. Most importantly, we believe that happy cafeterias start with our people. So we empower them to go above and beyond to bring their personal “extra” for even more creativity and joy at mealtime. Our goal every day is to make sure that students leave the cafeteria happier and healthier than when they came in.

Locally in Lynn we serve meals to over 16,000 students in 26 cafeterias; 18 elementary schools and 8 secondary schools. We do more than feed hungry students at Lynn Public Schools. We improve how students eat by preparing fresh, delicious and nutritious meals they love! We engage students and all of their senses through the creation of new and fresh dining experiences that improve their school day. Our wide variety of menu items, programs and initiatives nourish student’s bodies, minds and spirits.

Dear Parent or Guardian:

We are pleased to inform you that Lynn Public Schools will be implementing the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) while participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for School Year 2020-2021.

What does this mean for you and your children who attend any Lynn Public School?
Great news! All enrolled students are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge to your household each day of the 2020-2021 school year. Your child (ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.

This means each student is eligible for ONE complete breakfast meal and ONE complete lunch meal at NO CHARGE.

If your child wants to purchase a second entrée, a juice, milk or other ala carte items they will need to have money on their account or pay with cash. There will be no charging on accounts allowed for these items going forward.

We will be issuing a separate memo in the future, concerning refund requests for any positive funds in your child(ren) account. Please keep in mind, these funds can still be used for purchasing ala carte items at the schools.

If you have any further questions, please contact the food service office at (781) 477-7220

Feeding our students high quality meals that are nutritious and delicious is our top priority. Chartwells' menus are built to support the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and use recipes that taste great and are lower in fat, saturated fat, trans fats, cholesterol and sodium. Our menus also provide whole grains, fruits, vegetables and appropriate portion sizes for all age groups. We analyze our recipes for nutrient content and food values using a food-base menu planning and analysis program that complies with child nutrition guidelines for the National School Breakfast & Lunch programs.

You will see some changes with our school menus and as your student dines in their school cafeteria they will experience the new USDA requirements. There are five food groups to select foods from: fruits, vegetables, protein, bread grains, and milk. To make a complete meal, one vital change is the requirement for a student to select at least ½ cup of fruit or vegetable. Student meals must contain at least a selection of 3 of the 5 food groups with one being the fruit and/or vegetable selection. If no fruit or vegetable is selected, the student will pay the individual item prices for foods instead of the complete meal price.

Looking for Extra Income for 2 Hours a Day?

The Lynn Public Schools Food Service Department is looking for candidates to apply to be Lunch Aide Substitutes in our Elementary Schools. Some daily duties will include helping students with their lunches, taking meal counts, monitoring children at lunchtime/recess and cleaning.

If you have a child(ren) in certain Elementary Schools, you can request to Sub just for that particular school. Availability for all Elementary Schools is encouraged. Once approved, your name will be added to a call list and if an Aide is out you will receive a call to see if you can fill in for that day.

All interested applicants must apply at the Lynn Schools Personnel Office located in the Administration Building at 100 Bennett St.
