Nurses Office - 2021-2022 School Year
Welcome Back LEHS Families,
LPS is committed to providing a safe space for students to learn and grow during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the many ways we are addressing safety is by providing a robust testing plan. Students and staff will be able to participate in three different testing programs. They are:
Symptomatic Testing: (students who present with mild symptoms while at school; students should not go to school if experiencing symptoms while at home): A sample is collected by a shallow nasal swab at school using the BinaxNOW rapid antigen test. The rapid test only takes 15 minutes to get results. If the test is negative and the student has mild symptoms, he/she can return to class.
"Test and Stay": (A student who the school nurse has determined is a close contact from a school related exposure): A sample is collected by a shallow nasal swab at school using the BinaxNOW rapid antigen test. Tests are administered daily from the first day of exposure for 7 days.
Routine COVID Safety Checks: (Formerly pooled testing): Students perform a shallow nasal swab to themselves. Samples are sent in groups of 5-10. If a pool is positive all individuals in that pool will need further COVID-19 testing. If the pool is negative, all individuals in that pool have tested negative for COVID-19 that day.
If you would like your student to participate in COVID-19 testing, you will need to fill out a testing consent. A paper consent will be sent home with your student, please fill it out and return it to the school nurse. You may also access an online consent form by clicking here.
I look forward to learning and growing with you this year,
Dr. Braga

Vaping Information and Resources
Dear Parents & Guardians,
The letter below is to inform you of issues surrounding “vaping”/ “juuling.” (using e-cigarettes). Lynn English High School would like to share information about vaping with our parents and guardians. Vaping is a serious concern for teens across the country. There are misconceptions that it is a “healthy” alternative to smoking when in fact it carries its own risks.
Please Download This Letter Available In English and Spanish
And Read About The Resources.
Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Thank you for partnering with us on this important topic of public interest.
We will continue to work to educate our students in all aspects of adolescent development.

Lynn English High School is proud to announce that Tyler Generazzo received the Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship from the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance.
The Herter Scholarship provides financial assistance to Massachusetts students who demonstrate academic promise and aspirations for higher education. The special role of the Herter Scholarship, as an early identification program, is to recruit high school sophomores and juniors whose socio-economic backgrounds and environmental conditions may inhibit their ability to persevere and attain their educational goals.
Since 1972, the Herter Scholarship has assisted Massachusetts students with their higher education costs. Each year, twenty-five students are selected as Herter Scholarship recipients. Awards are determined annually, based on a student’s college cost of attendance, demonstrated need, and the level of funding for the program. Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years, and are subject to annual appropriations from the Massachusetts Legislature. Tyler intends to apply to the United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, Stanford University, University of California - Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UMass-Lowell, UMass-Amherst, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
He plans to pursue a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Lynn English Principal Tessie Mower congratulates Tyler and all of the educators who supported him throughout the years!

John & Abigail Adams Scholarship - Class of 2021
Lynn English High School is proud to announce that 122 students in the Class of 2021 received the John & Abigail Adams Scholarship from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship provides a tuition waiver for eight semesters of undergraduate education at a Massachusetts state college or university.
Massachusetts public high school students are eligible for the scholarship when they score at the Advanced performance level on one of the three high school state assessment tests in ELA, Mathematics, or STE (Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics, or Technology/Engineering); and score at the Proficient level or higher on the remaining two high school state assessment tests; and have combined scores from the three tests that place them in the top 25 percent of students in the graduating class in their district.
Principal Tessie Mower congratulates these students and the teachers who helped them achieve this success!

About School Councils
A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.
It is important to note the School Council plays an advisory role in assisting the building principal to organize and implement a School Improvement Plan which not only addresses the areas in which the school intends to comply with the requirements of the Educational Reform Act, but also how the school intends to meet those system-wide goals and policies adopted by the school committee. Membership will consist of the principal, teachers, parents, students and community members. |
