Lynn Woods Receives Commendation...Again!
For the second year in a row, the DESE has identified Lynn Woods School as a Commendation School. This is an honor and a distinction that we are all extremely proud of. This year, only 41 out of 1600 school across the Commonwealth were identified as such. I know our students and teachers work extremely hard each day, however, it is extremely gratifying to have the state acknowledge this dedication as well. We have a wall where our certificates from the state hang.
Also, we have two matching banners that hang proudly at the entrance of our school. Teachers were each awarded a pin to acknowledge their excellence and students were given ribbons. Both to be worn as a badge of honor! I am extremely proud of you all! Keep up the great work!
Our Walking Classroom!
A growing body of research suggests that people think and learn better when they are walking or doing another form of exercise. At Lynn Woods Elementary, Mrs. Kennedy's fifth-grade classroom can be found "walking to learn" twice a week, using an award-winning program from The Walking Classroom Institute.
During each session of The Walking Classroom, Mrs. Kennedy's students embark upon a group walk outdoors or indoors, with the assignment to listen to a 15-20 minute educational podcast on a portable audio player. The program comes with a year's worth of Common Core-aligned podcasts covering a wide range of topics in English Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. The rich variety of content has enabled Mrs. Kennedy to select podcasts that extend and enhance her classroom lessons.
Special thanks to the Lynn Woods PTO, Massachusetts Safe Routes to School and The Walking Classroom Institute for generously supporting this brain-boosting initiative!

Thank you Barry Burbank and WBZ Channel 4!
We were lucky enough to have a visit from Barry Burbank, meteorologist for WBZ TV, Channel 4 in Boston. (CBS affiliate) He taught us all about weather and how they forecast the weather.
At the end of his great presentation, they recorded a “Morning Message” that will aired on a morning newscast. All of the “First In Math” Players of the Day were selected to say “Good morning Boston!” and then he filmed the rest of grades 3, 4 and 5 waving hello!
