Welcome To The Captain William G. Shoemaker Elementary School

February 29, 2016

Dear Shoemaker Parents,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter to introduce myself as the new principal of the Shoemaker Elementary School. I am honored to continue the great work that Mrs. Riley has been doing for 6 years at Shoemaker.

During the few weeks since my appointment, I have been spending time at the school and attending events getting to know the daily routines as well as meeting teachers, students, and parents. It has been very enjoyable and I have been able to see many of the structures that have brought success to the Shoemaker School. I am looking forward to continuing the development of these relationships now that I will be at Shoemaker full-time.

I have worked in the city of Lynn for the last 12 years at a variety of grade levels. I have experience working with students in all elementary grade levels including ELL students and students with disabilities. I taught grades 2, 3, and 4 but regularly worked in all classrooms during my time as Curriculum and Instruction Teacher. During the last 3 years, I served as Program Specialist at Harrington School where I worked with teachers to support their classroom needs as well as the day to day running of the building with the principal.

I look forward to getting to know you and your children better as I support their teachers, and the Shoemaker School as a whole. I truly believe we are all part of the team that will lead to success for your children. I encourage you to stop in or call me to discuss any questions or concerns you may have now, or at any point in the future.

About School Councils

A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

It is important to note the School Council plays an advisory role in assisting the building principal to organize and implement a School Improvement Plan which not only addresses the areas in which the school intends to comply with the requirements of the Educational Reform Act, but also how the school intends to meet those system-wide goals and policies adopted by the school committee. Membership will consist of the principal, teachers, parents, students and community members.
