Public Notice to comply with P.L. 107-1 10, Section1111 (h) (6) (A)

The Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires school districts that receive federal Title I funding to notify parents of their right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct their child.

As a recipient of these funds, the Lynn Public Schools will provide you with this information in a timely manner if you request it. Specifically, you have the right to request the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers.

• Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subjects he/she teaches.

• Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status because of special circumstances.

• The teacher's college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.

• Whether paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.

The Lynn Public School System is committed to providing quality instruction for all students and does so by employing the most qualified individuals to teach and support each student in the classroom. If you would like information about the qualifications of your child's teachers, you may contact the principal of your child's school.

Square 1 Art Fundraiser | Posted October 25, 2012

Dear Sisson Parents/Guardians,

We will be having our Square 1 Art Fundraiser again this year.  You might have already heard your children talking about it.  With the help of our art teacher, Mrs. DiLisio, each student has created a piece of artwork.

Through Square 1 Art your child’s art is now able to be reproduced onto over 50 products!  We know you’ll be excited to share your child’s art with family and friends.  Think how proud your child will be to see their art on a special keepsake or gift!  Your child’s art would be a perfect gift for the holidays but also for other special occasions (birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day).

In the next week your child will be bringing home a sample product sheet and an order form.  Products should arrive the first week of December allowing time for mailing gifts to out of town family for the holidays.

We’re hoping this fundraiser will earn money for Sisson School while helping you do some holiday shopping at the same time!  Money raised will help fund educational and fun activities for the students.

If you have any questions please email us at ptosisson@comcast.net or send a note to the school office marked PTO and it will be put in our mailbox.

Thank you for helping make this a successful fundraiser!!

Stacey, Erin, Jamie and Michelle
Sisson School PTO

What is the PTO??

The Sisson PTO is a group of interested parents/guardians and teachers who work together to provide fun and educational experiences for the students.  Our focus is helping the children in our community enjoy an enriching learning experience.

We have several fundraisers each year to assist us in providing the following events:

  • Open Houses
  • Educational Assemblies
  • Christmas Fair
  • Polar Express Day
  • Field Trips
  • Earth Day
  • Education Fair/Ice Cream Social
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Field Day

We also participate in the” Labels for Education”, “Box Tops for Education” and “Recycle for Education” (Ink Cartridges) programs on an ongoing basis. These are all easy, yet very important ways for every family to help raise money for our school. You can also earn box tops for our school when you make online purchases through www.boxtops4education.com.  There are over 100 online merchants that participate! Please get the word out to your extended family and friends, and ask them to save their box tops, labels for education and empty ink cartridges for Sisson!

Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System
The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) is designed to meet the requirements of the Education Reform Law of 1993. This law specifies that the testing program must

- Test all public school students in Massachusetts, including students with disabilities and English Language Learner students;

- Measure performance based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework learning standards;

- Report on the performance of individual students, schools, and districts.

As required by the Education Reform Law, students must pass the grade 10 tests in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and one of the four high school Science and Technology Engineering tests as one condition of eligibility for a high school diploma (in addition to fulfilling local requirements).

In addition, the MCAS program is used to hold schools and districts accountable, on a yearly basis, for the progress they have made toward the objective of the No Child Left Behind Law that all students be proficient in Reading and Mathematics by 2014.
