Welcome to the LPS Induction Webpage

Welcome to the Lynn Public Schools Induction page. New teachers and their mentors are the lifeblood of our system.

Components of the Induction Program are mandated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The role of the Lynn Public School Department is to offer these components to new teachers and to those moving toward professional licensure in order to ease transitions and to ensure professional success. There is an Induction Coordinator for each grade span.  Please contact your grade level specific coordinator with any questions or concerns.

Advanced Mentoring Requirement

Teachers at the Provisional and Initial levels of licensing must complete certain requirements to advance to their next level of licensure. The district will provide teachers with an Induction Program and with options to complete the "50 hours of an advanced mentoring experience beyond the Induction year" that is also required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

All teachers must complete the Induction/Mentoring program during their first year in the district.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations for Professional Licensure also requires, among other things, "50 hours of an advanced mentoring experience" beyond the Induction year. In the Lynn Public Schools, we will now offer teachers four options to complete this requirement.

Option 1:
Completion of the RBT Course
"Studying Skillful Teaching: Promoting Motivation, Learning, and Achievement"
Attendance at School Support Team meetings for 2 years beyond the Induction year
Option 2:
Completion of the RBT Course
"Studying Skillful Teaching: Promoting Motivation, Learning, and Achievement"
Completion of the Workshop
"Beginning of the Year Classroom Management 1"
Attendance at School Support Team meetings for 1 year beyond the Induction year
Option 3:
Completion of the RBT Course
"Studying Skillful Teaching: Promoting Motivation, Learning, and Achievement"
Completion of the Workshop
"Beginning of the Year Classroom Management 1"
Completion of the Workshop
"Beginning of the Year Classroom Management 2"
Option 4:
Completion of the RBT Course
Completion of the RBT Course
" Investigating Obstacles to Achievement"
Please Note: Studying Skillful Teaching: Promoting Motivation, Learning, and Achievement must be completed prior to enrolling in Investigating Obstacles to Achievement
All teachers are obligated to know and complete all other requirements necessary to advance from Preliminary to Initial level license and then Initial to Professional level license.
Approved September 2009:
Catherine C. Latham, Superintendent Updated September 21, 2011
