Health Education Curriculum
Our
health curriculum teaches students to take responsibility for their own health
by learning how to stay healthy, practicing good health habits and giving up
harmful ones, and responding to warning signs before something serious happens
to their health.
Our
curriculum is being taught in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. It is
a sequential, age appropriate program that meets the guidelines of the
Department of Education Health Frameworks, a part of Education Reform in
Massachusetts.
This
year your child will be covering the following topics in health:

Safety and Prevention:
This strand includes those aspects of health most often
related to risky and dangerous behavior and conduct that can have negative
life-long consequences on health. The knowledge and skills present in this
strand provide a means for young people to avoid risky behaviors, now and in the
future, so they can lead
healthier lives.

Social and Emotional
Health:
This strand includes those aspects of
health that are particularly unique to human beings, namely being aware
of ourselves, both as individuals and as members of social groups.
The knowledge and skills presented in this strand address and support
our ability to interact with others in positive and socially acceptable
ways.

Physical Health:
This strand includes those aspects of
Health that are related to the natural progression of human development.
The emphasis is on building and maintaining healthy habits.

The students will be guided in Nutrition to gain the
knowledge and skills to select foods that supports health and reduces the risk
of illness and future chronic diseases.

groundwork for participation in preserving and improving our surroundings and
for dealing with future health related events.
