Welcome to my page! I am Mr. López and I teach theater classes as well as head the drama club. I have been an actor since I was a kid and a director and playwright all my adult life. I spent nine years in New York City as a professional actor, director, playwright and producer off Broadway. I have a Master’s degree in Theater Education from NYU and have been a theater educator for over twenty years.
I believe that the arts, and specifically theater arts, are the most important classes a student will ever take. While academic classes teach content and skills and information, a theater class teaches something much less concrete: empathy and how to be a person. You learn how to work cooperatively, how to think creatively and how to see things from another person’s perspective. I push my students and my actors hard, and I have high expectations for them. To me theater is so much more than an elective or an after school activity. It teaches all manner of skills applicable to the real world, and is the kind of experience you will remember for the rest of your life. |
