Dear Parent/Student
Here is an overview of what your child/ you will be learning in Health and Physical Education throughout your time at LVTI. Through health literacy, self-management skills, and health promotion, a comprehensive health education teaches fundamental health concepts, promotes habits, and conduct that enhance health and wellness, and guides efforts to build healthy families, relationships, schools, and communities. A planned sequential curriculum addresses a variety of topics with increasing degrees of complexity appropriate to students’ developmental levels. The physical education and health curriculum are aligned with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework; the course will address the four strands of learning as identified in the framework. This curriculum will also address the embedded CVTE strands.
Grade 8
- Physical Education
- Students will recognize decisions that all individuals will make with respect to their bodies in daily living and identify the relationships among actions, conduct and wellness. Students will learn the concepts of many different team games along with ways to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Grade 9(Period 1 and 2 during the freshman exploratory rotation)
- Physical Health Strand
- Students will recognize decisions that all individuals will make with respect to their bodies in daily living and identify the relationships among actions, conduct and wellness. Students will demonstrate the knowledge in Yoga, Meditation and basic stretching that can be used to maintain a healthy lifestyle at any age or fitness level.
- Social and Emotional Health Strand
- Students will develop skills needed in daily life as they come to learn about their identity, how to deal with the demands on their daily lives and how to manage interactions with other people.
- Safety and Prevention Strand
- Students will learn how they make decisions and weigh the probable consequences of their actions.
- Personal and Community Health Strand
- Students will develop a clear understanding of their personal, social and civic responsibilities by acting on accurate information to improve health in their communities.
Grade 10
- Team Building Concepts (during your shops designated week)
- Define and demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills that can carrier over to the workplace

- Physical Education
- Students will continue to recognize decisions that all individuals will make with respect to their bodies in daily living and identify the relationships among actions, conduct and wellness. Students will demonstrate the knowledge in dynamic stretching, static stretching and exercises that will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle at any age or fitness level.
