We wanted to take this opportunity to remind families of the LPS Safe and Welcoming Schools Policy as well as other resources available as we continue to navigate a time of enhanced immigration enforcement.
The policy was adopted by the Lynn School Committee in 2017 and remains in effect today. To summarize, we are a district committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all students and protecting the rights and well-being of every child in our care. We want to assure you that our schools are places of learning, safety, and inclusion for all, regardless of immigration status.
The policy can be accessed online at: https://lynnps.ss20.sharpschool.com/resources/safe_and_welcoming_schools
To ensure that the policy is followed, we updated our Safe Schools Procedure before this school year and shared that information with all LPS staff.
As an additional resource for families who may feel an imminent threat by the presence of federal immigration enforcement officers in our community, you may call the LUCE Hotline at 617-370-5023. The LUCE Immigrant Justice Network of Massachusetts verifies ICE sightings, supports residents in exercising their rights and shares verified information in the interest of protecting the community. You may call LUCE if you know someone who has been detained and needs to be connected with helpful resources.
LUCE has also set up a LUCE Lynn WhatsApp channel that can be accessed at https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbBHEC1IiRordF4g390z
The primary goal of this communication is to let families know our schools are indeed safe spaces and strongly urge you to send your students to school. Every absence from school represents a missed opportunity to learn and grow.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns you might have.
