What is a STEAM school?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
Students at the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) will be in a hands-on learning environment
with unique opportunities to work on projects that blend STEM topics and the arts.
Why is LPS creating a STEAM Academy?
Within the LPS community, there is high demand for coursework connected to college and career pathways.
Given the projected career growth over ten years in STEM fields, it is important for Lynn Public Schools
to focus program development on themed STEM pathways and the development of STEM/STEAM schools. CASA will
prepare students for future occupations as well as elevate and integrate the arts into the fabric of the school.
This new public school will meet student interest and magnify the city’s investment in arts and culture for all
community members.
How will Lynn’s City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) be different from other school options in Lynn?
Students enrolled in the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) will benefit from being members of a single
school community through high school graduation. This will be a specialized school with a focus on STEAM education.
STEAM and Humanities courses will afford students the opportunity to learn across subjects and work on interdisciplinary
projects that combine topics from different content areas.
What grades will the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) have?
The City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) will be a middle and high school, offering grades 6 through 12.
Students entering Grade 6 and Grade 9 will be eligible to attend the STEAM Academy in September 2025.
Who is eligible to attend the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA)?
Any rising 6th or 9th grade student who is a resident of the City of Lynn may enter the lottery to enroll at the
City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA).
How can my child enroll?
There will be an enrollment lottery for the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA). If you have a child entering
6th or 9th grade in the fall 2025, you can fill out
the email list for CASA. We will send information about the next steps in the enrollment process to all families who
submit their information into the email list – the application form will be open from January 3 to January 31, 2025.
There will be seats for 100 students in 6th grade and 100 students in 9th grade when the school opens.
If applicants exceed the number of available seats, students will be entered into a randomized lottery.
What will the enrollment process be?
We will send reminders about enrollment to all families who join the email list.
Families will complete the enrollment application form on the Lynn Public Schools website. These forms will place the student
into the enrollment pool. If the number of students who indicate the intent to enroll exceeds the number of available seats, a
randomized lottery will tentatively take place during the week prior to February vacation and accepted students will be notified accordingly.
What subjects will be available at the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA)?
At the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA), students will complete the same graduation requirements as all other LPS students,
but with an emphasis on the sciences and arts. Through hands-on and project-based coursework centered in creative problem solving,
students will be inspired to use critical thinking and experimentation to imagine and build their future.
Where will Lynn’s City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) be located?
The City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) will be located at 33 North Common Street in Lynn, MA. The existing facility will
undergo renovations for our new school opening in September 2025.
