About School Councils
A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

It is important to note the School Council plays an advisory role in assisting the building principal to organize and implement a School Improvement Plan which not only addresses the areas in which the school intends to comply with the requirements of the Educational Reform Act, but also how the school intends to meet those system-wide goals and policies adopted by the school committee. Membership will consist of the principal, teachers, parents, students and community members.

Brickett Is Looking Up!

Dear Brickett Elementary School Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Shirley Albert-Benedict as Brickett Elementary School Principal. Ms. Albert-Benedict was appointed Interim Principal in July of 2021. Building on an impressive experience as interim principal at the Hood Elementary during the 2020-21 school year, Ms. Albert-Benedict has co-led with Dr. Mary Dill with distinction over the past six months. Each of these experiences has led to the decision, one about which we are very excited. Ms. Albert-Benedict’s appointment will take effect on Monday, December 20, 2021.

Prior to her school leadership roles, Ms. Albert-Benedict was Assistant Director of Curriculum for Mathematics, a role she has held for more than 10 years. Before assuming this district wide responsibility, Ms. Albert-Benedict was a Curriculum and Instruction Teacher at Harrington Elementary. Ms. Albert-Benedict served as principal at Brickett in a temporary capacity in the spring of 2020. Among the other important elements evident in this temporary appointment, she quickly acquainted herself with students and families and built relationships with staff. Through all of her school leadership roles, her efforts can best be described as communicative, thoughtful, and thorough.

In short, Ms. Albert-Benedict brings exceptional instructional expertise strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the Lynn Public Schools and the families it serves. She is the right fit at this time.

I have great confidence that Ms. Albert-Benedict will meet the challenges ahead and I welcome you to join with me in extending to her our full support.
