Welcome to Lynn English High School
Dear Lynn English High School Community:
Welcome to School Year 2022-2023! The mission of Lynn English High School is to have students become self-directed, life-long learners who acquire core knowledge, and effectively utilize technology to participate in a global society.
We are very excited to welcome students back in a few weeks. Wednesday, September 7th, is the first day of school. This day will only be for 9th grade students and will run from 7:45am to 2:30pm. Thursday, September 8th, will be a full day for all grades, 9-12. During the first week of school we will review the required routines as a school-community.
Each day homeroom begins at 7:45am. Homeroom is mandatory for all students. For students in grades 10-12, homeroom will be the same as this past year. For students in the 9th grade, staff members will provide homerooms at the start of the day. This school year, attendance in all classes including study halls is mandatory for all students. Our school schedule remains the same: students attend school from 7:45am to 2:30pm: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays (excluding September 7th) students attend school from 7:45am to 12:30pm. Each school day, our field house entrance doors are open at 7:15am for breakfast.
This past year, we were able to graduate students at record high percentages. We also saw great performances by our sports teams and our clubs were in full swing with performances and events several times during the year. This summer we had many programs that provided students with opportunities to visit colleges, learn about the 9th grade, and receive additional academic support.
We are excited to build upon this great work to continue our growth as a school. We will continue to partner with North Shore Community College and Salem State University to offer Early College courses. Our school will continue to provide a portfolio of Advance Placement Courses in several content areas and partner with community organizations that support the growth of each student at LEHS. Additionally, we will continue to implement systems and programs of support to make sure that each student is on track to graduate.
Lynn Public Schools is moving to Power Schools to access grades, attendance, and schedules. Family and student logins to Power Schools will be available after the start of the school year. Schoology will still be available to access schedules, grades, attendance, and assignments. Directions to access Schoology will be posted on our website and reviewed with students during the first week of school. Additionally, we will review with students the school’s required routines during the first week of school.
In addition to the work ahead, we would like to welcome three new professionals to our Vice Principal team. Eddie Rodriguez will oversee the 9th grade. Stephen Smith will oversee the 10th grade. Garcia Dalzon will oversee the 11th grade. Jennifer Mancaniello, our veteran Vice Principal at LEHS, will oversee the 12th grade. Students will have an opportunity to meet their Vice Principal on their first day of school.
In the coming weeks, we will send out information around the COVID-19 guidelines for this school-year.
We are looking forward to a great school year!
Best Wishes,

About School Councils
A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.
It is important to note the School Council plays an advisory role in assisting the building principal to organize and implement a School Improvement Plan which not only addresses the areas in which the school intends to comply with the requirements of the Educational Reform Act, but also how the school intends to meet those system-wide goals and policies adopted by the school committee. Membership will consist of the principal, teachers, parents, students and community members. |

In an abundance of caution, practices for Lynn English athletic teams were stopped and students were sent home.
Clinicians will be available at the school tomorrow for any student that would like to speak with a clinician.

Good Afternoon LEHS Families:
I hope everyone is having a great day.
Yesterday afternoon, we had a staff member who fell at the school and was transported by ambulance. The staff member is ok and is in good spirits.
I also wanted to remind families about the ACCESS testing that will start tomorrow. Below is the communication that was sent to families on January 4, 2023.
This message is to inform families about the ACCESS for English Language Learner (ELL) assessment that will take place this month.
There will be a few changes to the schedule this month because of the exam.
ACCESS for ELLs is an English language proficiency test that measures students’ academic English language skills.
If your child was identified as an ELL, your child can have English as a second language instruction, in addition to taking other classes.
ELLs take an English language proficiency test every year.
Testing helps teachers understand whether students have the language skills they need to fully participate in the classroom.
Teachers use ACCESS for ELLs test scores as they decide how best to teach your child.
Test scores also help teachers track students’ progress in learning academic English and help schools decide what English language support services to provide.
All English Language Learners at LEHS will report to school to complete the ACCESS for ELLs on the following dates:
· Part 1 of the ACCESS for ELLs on Wednesday, January 11, 2023
· Part 2 of the ACCESS for ELLs on Wednesday, January 18, 2023
All other students at LEHS (students who are NOT ELLs) will work asynchronously on both testing days and work from home by completing work through Schoology.
All students in the Life Skills program will report to LEHS and follow their typical Wednesday schedule.

Good Morning LEHS Families:
With the second quarter underway, we wanted to send a quick reminder about the 4-day rule.
Any student with 4 or more unexcused absences for a quarter, receives a D- for grades.
It is essential that students attend homeroom each day to make sure the student is marked present. Homeroom is from 7:45am to 8:00am each day.
If a student is late to school, the student will go to the Lincoln Foyer to receive a late pass. The student will then be marked tardy for the day.
If you believe your student's absence should be excused, please have your student bring their excused absence note to their homeroom teacher. The homeroom teacher will provide the note to the student's Vice Principal.
As a reminder, if you believe there was an error with attendance for your student from the first quarter, please email your student's Vice Principal or Guidance Counselor.
A list of our Vice Principals and Guidance Counselors can be found on our website under the directory side tab.

Good Morning LEHS Families:
It is with a heavy heart that I am informing you about a current student at LEHS that passed away over the holiday break.
The student was a great member of our community who brought positive energy to our school each day.
We are heartbroken as a community because of the loss of the student.
Tomorrow, we will be taking a moment of silence during homeroom for the student. We will also have additional clinical support available throughout the week for any student or faculty member that requests support. At LEHS, we have 8 clinical staff members, clinical support is available throughout the school year.
In the coming week, we will be looking at further ways we can memorialize and honor the student and family.
Loss is difficult and it takes time to process. As a school community, we will support each other through this challenging time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the student's family at this time.
With respect to the family, we are not releasing the student’s name at this time.
