In light of the recent legislative changes following the approval of Massachusetts Ballot Question 2 in November 2024, the requirement to pass the MCAS for Competency Determination (CD) has been revised. In compliance with this new law, the requirements for obtaining a high school diploma in Lynn Public Schools have been updated for the graduating classes of 2003 through 2024.
Competency Determination Requirements for Classes of 2003 through 2024:
Students from the classes of 2003 through 2024 can meet the requirements for competency determination by:
• Receiving a passing grade in the equivalent of a grade 10 English course; and
• Receiving a passing grade in the equivalent of a grade 10 Mathematics course; and
• Receiving a passing grade in the equivalent of a grade 10 lab-based Science/Technology/Engineering (as applicable) course.
These requirements are in addition to having met all other local graduation criteria at that time by Lynn Public Schools.
Eligibility:
This change applies to former LPS students from the graduating cohorts of 2003-2024 who did not meet the MCAS graduation requirement.
Process:
All applications must be submitted online.
A transcript review will be conducted at the school site to determine eligibility to acquire a diploma dated 2025 accompanied by a letter of explanation from Lynn Public Schools.
Review Periods:
Applications will be reviewed twice a year:
- June-July review period (submission deadline: June 15)
- November-December review period (submission deadline: November 15)
